Dodge County Civil Docket Searches
Start with Wisconsin Circuit Court Access. It is a free public tool for open Dodge County Circuit Court civil cases. Enter a party name, business name, county, or case number. The case number is the cleanest key. If you only have a name, pick Dodge County. Then compare case type, opening date, party role, and status until the right matter stands out. WCCA gives you public metadata and event history, not the filed pleadings or exhibits.
Unsure which case is which? Turn to the Dodge County Clerk of Circuit Court. The clerk takes questions at the Juneau counter and by phone, mail, fax, or email. A search for an unknown case number runs $5 under the county fee schedule. Provide the party or business name plus enough detail to narrow the matter down.
- Open WCCA and select Dodge County.
- Enter the case number, party, or business name.
- Narrow by civil type or status only as needed.
- Review the matching case and event dates.
- Ask the clerk for a named pleading, order, or certified copy.
Note: The statewide result is an index and event summary; the Dodge County clerk controls the underlying civil case file.
Dodge Civil Docket Search Fields
WCCA's own documentation splits simple name searching from broader search criteria. The business-name field matters. A company can be a party when no individual's name helps. Adding county and case type cuts down false matches. Want a civil judgment rather than the full event history? Judgment Search offers that route.
| Field | Use | Caution |
|---|---|---|
| Party name | Find a person in a public civil case | Compare spelling and roles |
| Business name | Locate an organization | Use the recorded legal name |
| County | Restrict results to Dodge | Cases filed elsewhere remain there |
| Case number | Open the precise match | Use the complete number |
| Type or status | Separate categories | Current labels govern |
The state case-search launch page also links to appellate access. A Dodge civil appeal carries its own WSCCA case identifier.
Dodge Civil Dockets: What They Show
A Dodge County civil court docket is a dated record of case information and court activity. An entry marked filed or opened shows when the matter entered the system under that field. A motion is just a request for a ruling, not proof it was granted. Future activity means an event is still pending. Judgment marks a result the court has entered.
| Case Number | The request key, often with a type such as 2026-CV-#####; no private sample is shown. |
|---|---|
| Parties | Public names or business names and recorded roles. |
| Case Type | Ordinary civil, family, small claims, probate, or another category. |
| Events | Document titles, dates, motions, orders, and court activity shown as metadata. |
| Future Activity | A hearing or event that has not necessarily occurred. |
| Judgment or Status | The recorded result or current public state. |
Complaints, answers, affidavits, exhibits, and orders are not available as public WCCA downloads. When you order one, identify the document by name and date.
Dodge Civil Docket Small Claims
Small claims run through Circuit Court on a focused process. The Dodge small claims page lists a $94.50 filing fee. Wisconsin form SC-6020 covers money claims. SC-6030 covers replevin. SC-6040 is an answer, and SC-6010 covers eviction. Replevin means asking for the return of personal property.
| Point | Small claims | Ordinary civil |
|---|---|---|
| Local source | Dodge instructions and state forms | Circuit rules and branch orders |
| Docket focus | Claim, answer, service, hearing, judgment | Pleadings, discovery, motions, trial, judgment |
| Search | WCCA when public | WCCA when public |
| Documents | Request from clerk | Request from clerk |
Venue usually follows where the defendant lives or where the action happened, with extra rules for some matters. The clerk hands out forms and access but cannot advise you on how to litigate.
What Fills the Dodge Civil Docket
The Dodge County civil docket spans ordinary civil claims, divorce and family matters, small claims, probate, and other Circuit Court cases. How the portal classifies a case controls what displays. Don't merge these groups. Their events, forms, custodians, and access rules all differ.
- Ordinary civil cases can show pleadings, motions, scheduling, orders, and judgments.
- Small claims use their own forms and county instructions.
- Family cases may show case data while protected material stays restricted.
- Probate cases can show estate, representative, claims, inventory, and status fields.
- Juvenile and adoption information follows special confidentiality rules.
Estates, guardianships, and adoptions go through the Dodge Register in Probate at the Justice Facility. WCCA may show a permitted probate summary. But wills, inventories, claims, and confidential filings require the probate office or clerk.
Dodge Civil Docket Caseload Labels
The 2024 circuit caseload report counts 2,829 Dodge civil cases opened, 2,764 disposed, and 547 end pending. Each figure measures something different. They do not count visitors, and they should not be subtracted as if every opening and disposition belonged to one fixed annual group.
The report breaks things down by ordinary civil, divorce, paternity, family, small claims, probate, and more. Keep its year and column names intact. Volume alone can't predict how long any single case will take.
Hearings on the Dodge Civil Docket
Dodge local rules make scheduling entries matter. A conference might happen by phone. The scheduling order can set discovery, pretrial, motion, and trial deadlines. Before filing a motion, local rules generally require contacting the judge or judicial assistant to get it scheduled. Filing alone does not create a hearing.
Motion papers carry local lead times. Serving more than 35 interrogatories generally takes a stipulation or order, and an interrogatory is simply a written discovery question. A continuance moves a setting under court rules, not through an informal agreement. Always check the newest future activity and the assigned branch.
Civil flow: Complaint or Petition → Answer → Scheduling Conference → Discovery → Motion or Pretrial → Trial or Settlement → Judgment
Common mistake: A filed motion is not proof that a Dodge County civil hearing has been set. Confirm the event with the assigned branch.
The Dodge County court rules were updated in 2026.
Dodge Civil Pleadings Beyond the Docket
A civil case can show its result while the pleading stays out of view. Wisconsin eFiling lets authorized parties and attorneys into their own documents. But it is not a public PDF repository. For open documents, the public goes to the Clerk of Circuit Court.
The county request page accepts in-person, phone, mail, fax, and email requests at dodge.records@wicourts.gov. Email works for records, not filings. Include the case number, the exact document and date. Add a phone number too. No case number? Give a party name and expect the $5 search fee.
| Item | Dodge Circuit cost |
|---|---|
| Plain copy | $1.25 per page |
| Certification | $5 extra per document |
| Unknown-number search | $5 |
| Digital audio | $10 thumb drive per recording |
Transcript requests need the case number and hearing date. Send branch proceedings to the assigned reporter. The county sets no fixed transcript fee, so ask for a quote first.
Who Can See Dodge Civil Dockets
Access to a Dodge County civil docket starts with the Wisconsin Public Records Law, Wis. Stat. §§ 19.31–19.39. That law leans toward openness. The lean is not absolute. Confidentiality statutes, court rules, and common-law balancing can still limit what a clerk releases. The clerk of court holds the record itself. WCCA shows only what the law permits. Do not treat it as a promise that every filing or event in a case is public.
Family files are usually open, the county FAQ says, though protected forms stay restricted. Juvenile court records follow Wis. Stat. § 938.396. The clerk can withhold adoptions, guardianships, sealed matters, and confidential material. A Social Security number, an account number, or a protected identity stays private. A civil case alone does not change that.
Access rule: Ask for the exact Dodge County civil record. The clerk decides access under Wisconsin law and can provide a plain or certified copy when permitted.
Under Wis. Stat. § 19.35, a routine request for a Dodge County court record needs no stated purpose and no government ID. It does need enough detail for the clerk to actually locate the file. And if a docket event and a signed order appear to disagree, trust the order held by the clerk and confirm its status there.
Note: Electronic filing changes how a document reaches court, but it does not make every Dodge civil filing publicly downloadable.
Dodge Probate Docket Status
Probate offers its own route into the civil docket. A permitted WCCA record may list the estate status, the personal representative, the final claims date, and the inventory status. It also flags whether the case is open or closed. Those fields can point you to a Dodge County probate matter. They stop short of the full estate file.
The Dodge Register in Probate handles estates, guardianships, and adoptions. Ask that office or the circuit clerk for an open will, inventory, claim, or order. Adoption and protected probate material carry stricter access rules. A public status line on the docket never unlocks every filed document.
